3D Audio Konzert | Eau Rouge
Benedikt Maile and Daniel Schiffner teamed up with the Stuttgart based band Eau Rouge to create and experiment with a rather uncommon live setup at the Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart. 40 speakers and 4 subwoofers were rigged in 3 different heights to enable wave field synthesis, which allows to place audio signals in a virtual spatial environment and experience Eau Rouge 3D. Simply said, you are able to exactly locate where the sound is coming from and single instruments can be placed behind you or rotate around your head for creative and psychedelic effects. To support this omnidirectional experience visually, we first worked out a way to distribute light evenly in the room or place beams in specific locations without an excessive setup. A mirrored hemisphere, heavy fog and 15.000 ANSI-Lumen helped us to achieve this goal. The two audio engineers intended to stay close to classic setups and use the 3D sound capabilities for subtle effects, so we supported the musical climaxes with strobes and backlighting on stage.
